Arcadia, Louisiana — On Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, Jackie Egans of Bienville PSB was named 2021-2022 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year by PCAL in recognition of her distinguished service. Now in its 18th year, the PCAL Bus Driver of the Year program recognizes drivers based upon multiple driver attributes including Leadership, Attitude, Perseverance, Student and Parent Relationships, and Technical Skills.
This year, seven PCAL Member drivers have been honored as their Parish’s 2021-2022 Bus Driver of the Year. From those, two were named 2021-2022 PCAL Regional Bus Driver of the Year. The Regional designation represents an even higher level of dedication and accomplishment.
The 2021-2022 PCAL Statewide Bus Driver of the Year award that was presented to Ms. Egans is presented to just one PCAL Parish school bus driver and represents the highest level of achievement.
Lauren Young of Risk Services of Louisiana presented Ms. Egans with the Statewide award on behalf of PCAL. The award included a $1,000 check, a Bus Driver of the Year 20-oz. tumbler, a Bus Driver of the Year tote, a commendation, and an engraved plaque from the PCAL Bus Driver of the Year program. A plaque commemorating Ms. Egans’ achievement was also awarded to Bienville PSB.
Ms. Egans has operated a school bus for Bienville PSB for fifteen years, joining a rich and proud family tradition of service at Bienville PSB. Her great-grandfather (25 years), grandfather (25 years), and mother (29 ½ years) all operated a school bus for BPSB. “It feels so amazing to be honored for something that comes so naturally for me,” Ms. Egans humbly said of the award, mentioning the honor of carrying on the family tradition.
Ms. Egans has been praised by those she serves for her leadership and consistently positive attitude that stems from her desire to serve others. She maintains excellent communication with parents, contacting them regularly to advise them of the positive things their children do every day on her bus.
“We’re honored to recognize the effort, sacrifice and great care exhibited by school bus drivers throughout the PCAL program,” said Rick Edwards, President of Edwards Risk Management, Inc. “When I consider the heartfelt praise offered by other school bus drivers, supervisors, school staff, students and parents, it stands out in my mind that the accomplishments extend beyond competent driving. It also speaks volumes to these drivers’ humility, gentle spirits, gracious demeanor and servant hearts, even as many of them have dealt with their own life struggles.”
